Thunder Bay District of Ontario is world famous for its distinctive, ancient amethyst crystals.
Mined ourselves from an undisclosed private mine site in McTavish Township, in the Thunder Bay District. Called Meteoric Amethyst, Thunder Bay Red Amethyst, Canadian Amethyst and Auralite 23, this rare and unique mineral is highly sought after by collectors around the world.
Elite Red Point Thunder Bay Amethyst with Plate Formation
Crimson red crystal points with several containing a dark smokey/black face on the underside of the points. The stunning and unusual reddish coloration is caused by an internal coating of red hematite (iron).
Growth inhibition in quartz is caused by the crystals running out of space during growth. This creates an unusual 'plate' formation that adds rarity and beauty to the specimen. The direction of the plate growth is unique and reflects light at all angles, giving this specimen a 'sparkle like' luster.
Rare plate formation combined with the stunning red points makes this specimen a spectacular show piece.
